1. If they don’t want to be with you, they’re not the right one for you. You don’t want to spend too much time wondering whether the person who got away was the right one for you — because the right person for you wouldn’t leave you on read. They wouldn’t disappear without an explanation. They wouldn’t leave you wondering whether you’ve done something wrong. This person who ghosted you must not be right for you, so don’t stress too much about their absence. The right person will stay.
2. Finding love isn’t easy. Movies might make it look easy. The couples who have been together since high school or college might make it look easy. But for most people, finding love isn’t something that happens quickly. It can take decades to meet your perfect match. Don’t compare yourself to the people around you who just so happened to find love faster. They’re not superior to you. They’re simply on a different journey than you.
3. You should be proud about putting yourself out there. Getting ghosted once is bad enough. When it keeps happening again and again, it’s natural to want to stop trying. But you’ve been brave enough to put your heart on the line time and time again. You should be proud of yourself for keeping your heart open, for refusing to let rejection get the best of you.
4. You’re not the one who should be embarrassed. The person who ghosted you should be embarrassed. They should have been respectful enough to tell you that they weren’t interested. They should have given you an explanation, or at least a head’s up, about the fact they weren’t going to see you again. You didn’t do anything wrong here.
5. Pretty much everyone has gotten ghosted before. You’re not the only one who has wondered where someone special has gone. In the age of modern dating, pretty much everyone has gone through the same experience. Frequently. Don’t assume there’s something wrong with you or that you’re unlovable because you’re not the only one who has been ghosted.
6. Being single isn’t a bad thing. You can’t assume your life would magically be better if you were in a relationship. Love isn’t the only thing you need in order to be happy. In fact, you can be perfectly happy without a relationship. Don’t rely on someone else to change your life. You can do that yourself.
7. It’s okay to be upset. It sucks to lose someone you thought you had potential with. Even if you’ve only known each other for a few weeks, or even days, it’s still upsetting to find out you aren’t meant to last after all. You’re allowed to be upset over getting ghosted. It’s okay to be a little pissed.
8. Not everyone is going to leave. Once you find the right person, it might be hard to accept they’re actually going to stay, but not everyone is going to abandon you. Some people mean it when they make promises. They would never do you wrong.
