Fans Rave About Kieran Culkin’s Emmy-Worthy Moment in ‘Succession’ Season 4, Episode 9

Succession is no stranger to Emmy wins and nominations. The hit HBO Max series chronicling the ruthless Roy family —  as they all vie for control of the mega media conglomerate founded by their father — has snagged 48 nominations and 13 wins since it first premiered in 2018.

Following Kieran Culkin’s performance from someone emotionally detached to a child struggling with sorrow in Season 4, Episode 9 titled “Church and State,” viewers agree that Culkin will be the next one to secure the coveted prize. Fans have taken to Twitter to praise the actor’s portrayal of grief.

Spoiler warning for Season 4, Episode 9 of Succession

1. Roman’s grief is all too palpable

2. Culkin is coming for the Emmy

Kieran Culkin is giving such a strong performance in season four of Succession that IndieWire predicts he will join co-stars Jeremy Strong and Brian Cox in the 2023 Emmy Race for Best Actor in a Drama Series. Yet, according to fans of the former child star, he has already secured the statuette. That funeral moment —  when he finally breaks down, as his facade of impermeability crumbles (after prepping and prepping — with notecards at the ready) will be impossible to top. The Emmys aren’t until September, so until then, fingers crossed for Kieran.
